Gardening Woes
Over the years, we have made several attempts to garden with marginal success. The most common issue was the proliferation of pests. Raised garden beds were helpful in getting the crops higher off the ground but still did not eliminate the issue. This, together with not having much experience, was just too much of a hassle.
Last year we took a chance and tried a different solution by purchasing a Farmstand from Lettuce Grow. Sure, it was expensive but with prices on the rise and availability of produce on the decline; we thought it would be a good investment.
A Great Experience
Almost a year in, we are very pleased with the results. Not only does it yield plenty of produce, but it is also fascinating to watch our plants grow each day. The modern design is beautiful in the corner of our dining room, and we enjoy the sound of a water fountain throughout the day. We also have the glow rings add-on to provide sunlight indoors.
Harvesting Methods

When it comes to harvesting, there are two methods, full harvest like romaine where you harvest the entire head of lettuce, or cut and come again, like Basil, where you take just the outer leaves. We have found you can actually get away with cut and come again with most of the plants before having to replace them.

Maintenance
Minimal maintenance must be performed once a week, adding nutrients to the water, checking PH, and refilling the bottom water tank. Every three weeks, it is a good idea to take out each plant to trim the roots, and then every three months or so you have to perform a reset. The reset involves removing all of your plants, dismantling the Farmstand, and cleaning each part thoroughly.
For the most part, pests are no longer an issue, but they still do visit, coming with new seedlings from the distribution centers. The pests are typically very small and easily managed using neem oil spray, mosquito bits, and occasionally adding 3% hydrogen peroxide.
In Conclusion
Lettuce Grow has a large community of owners on their Facebook site that can answer any questions you may have, and there are many videos out on YouTube that can guide you along the way. Lettuce Grow also has an app that reminds you when to perform maintenance and when to order new seedlings.
If you want some control of your food source and are seeking some semblance of independence from our inefficient food system, getting a Farmstand from Lettuce Grow may be a great option.
