Processed Food Is Not Real Food

In the early 1900s, processed food was introduced into the American diet. By the 1950s, fast-food restaurants and highly processed foods were prolific. The usage of high fructose corn syrup, artificial sweeteners, and other highly inflammatory oils created the processed food monster, the effects of which we are seeing today.

According to the American Heart Association, 60% – 70% of the American population is either overweight or obese, with an increased risk of heart disease, diabetes, high blood pressure, and other chronic health issues. While each person has to make a personal decision for themselves, we have an aversion to being what we call “on the pill train". Laith and I share the same goals, to live a healthy life free of chronic disease, pain, and reliance on the healthcare system, if at all possible.

In order to have the best success in achieving wellness and losing extra weight, it is imperative to eat real food. I'm talking grass-fed beef, eggs, lots of dark leafy greens, cruciferous veggies, healthy oils like Extra-Virgin Olive Oil (EVOO), grass-fed butter (Kerrygold is our fave), and avocados. We ditched the sugar, processed carbs, and most other carbs as well. When we do occasionally eat carbs, we'll add fresh organic potatoes or sweet potatoes with delicious and healthy herbs. We also make our own pita bread and pizza dough, so we have control of the ingredients. We even have gone as far as milling our own flour to take advantage of the nutrients of fresh organic wheat berries.

Food diversity is important! We like to pair Keto and Mediterranean to give us more options, allowing us to experience a variety of flavors and ingredients. Amazingly, once we detoxed from the sugar and processed foods, the flavors of real food came to life because our taste buds are no longer affected by fake engineered chemical additives that go straight to the brain to release dopamine. How bad must that food be in order to artificially trick the brain into making us feel good about eating it? Ditch the fake food and go back to basics with real food. You'll enjoy the benefits of their nutrients and healing properties!
