When we first heard the term “insulin resistance” we had no idea what it meant. Being the inquisitive types, Laith and I headed down a rabbit hole of discovery that explained the root cause of most chronic diseases such as obesity, diabetes, and heart disease.
For as long as we can remember, we've been told that these conditions are stand-alone diseases, not symptoms caused by the heavy use of processed foods, high carbohydrates, and sugar in our Western SAD diet.
Have you ever wondered why big-name organizations focused on researching these diseases have never found a cure? Why aren't they focused on finding the source instead? These organizations make so much money from treating the symptoms that there is no reason to find the source which would ultimately lead to the cure. These organizations get money from the pharmaceuticals who provide the treatments, so there is no incentive to cure anyone. It's a well-oiled money-making machine, at the cost of Americans' health and well-being.
Rather than ‘unlucky genes’, these conditions result from metabolic processes and cellular physiology derailed by poor diet, disrupted circadian rhythms, poor stress management, inadequate physical activity and other parameters by which modern lifestyles may be misaligned with the dietary and environmental landscapes humans are physiologically adapted to.
While I could go on and on about this, only by doing your own research will you find the truth, and you have to be able to test it for yourself to either believe it or not and if it's worth making changes.
Here are a few of the videos that helped us get educated:
What is Insulin Resistance
How to Reverse Insulin Resistance
It became clear that one of the primary sources of weight gain is insulin resistance. There is no joy in saying that in order to break this cycle, we had to reduce significantly, if not eliminate sugar and processed foods from our diet, including snacks! Once there were improvements in overall well-being the weight naturally started to come off. It's like we had to get healthy in order to lose weight. Our goal was to find the source rather than treat the symptoms. The source is the food.
We were able to prove this to ourselves by using the time-restricting feeding method (intermittent fasting) and eating whole foods. Foods that are natural, organic, grass-fed, ketogenic in nature, and low-carb with no sugar. These foods produced the results we read about in more “alternative” sources from holistic and functional medicine doctors. These sources were not easy to find either, we had to dig and know what to search for before we came across them.
As with anything, the truth will be revealed only by seeking and testing out what you learn. The truth is that there is much money to be made from illness and our sick care industry is trained to diagnose symptoms and write prescriptions to treat those symptoms, never to cure them. Most doctors don't know anything about nutrition. One must wonder why and an even better question is who funds the medical industry. Follow the money.
They say that the definition of insanity is doing the same thing repeatedly and expecting a different outcome. Only by doing something different are we able to experience the healing that repairs our bodies so we can truly live life in a state of wellness.
Cheers to good health!
