MCT (medium-chain triglyceride) We had never heard of MCT until last year, little did we know, we had been consuming it for some time as it is often derived from coconut oil (sometimes palm oil). The difference between coconut oil and MCT is that MCT oil is refined to provide 100% medium-chain triglycerides. Coconut oil has only 15% medium-chain triglycerides, along with short-chain and long-chain triglycerides. The point of using MCT is to utilize medium-chain triglycerides as they are easily absorbed.
MCT Health Benefits
Improves brain function (cognition and memory)
Regulates inflammation
Quickly absorbed by the liver, in a matter of minutes, for energy boost
Spikes ketones
Smaller molecules of fat than long-chain triglycerides
Helps to satiate when fasting
Improves athletic endurance
Promotes gut health
Boosts heart health
Helps with Alzheimer's, epilepsy, Parkinson's, autism
Anti-microbial and anti-bacterial
note: Because it is refined, it does not have a lot of nutrients, so it is important to use it in conjunction with a healthy diet. Some people don’t tolerate it immediately, so try 1 teaspoon at a time. You can have 1 tablespoon up to 6 tablespoons per day.
